To help reduce the unnecessary euthanasia of adoptable cats, to reduce the cruelty to and neglect of cats and to educate the general public in cat related issues.
1/1/2009 Xani was a friendly young stray being fed by a kind Allentown family since the summer of 2008. When Xani gave birth to 6 kittens, the Allentown family socialized the babies and found homes for a4 of the kittens. Then suddenly, Xani stopped coming to their balcony for a week! They feared she had been injured.... or worse. Finally Xani returned, but her rear leg was hanging limply and it was obvious Xani needed vet care ASAP.
Lucky for Xani, her rescuers worked closely with the Cat Shack and managed to get Xani and her 2 remaining kittens (Mango and Tamarind) to our vet and into a safe foster home. Our vet discovered that Xani's leg was badly dislocated and fractured, but we are happy to say it was repairable! Xani has now moved from a hard cast to a soft wrap and in early January she will be re-xrayed and have the wrap removed. Our vets are very pleased with her progress and, although Xani's vet bills were high, the outcome for this cat could not be better!
Xani will be available for adoption starting in early February 2009. She is sweet and purry with her foster family and uses the litterbox religiously, even when she wore her stiff cast! She is currently kept away from other cats until she heals, so we are not sure if she is cat-friendly yet but we suspect she could acclimate to other cats. She may do just fine as a single cat as well.
Xani's kitten, Mango, has already been adopted. However, her exceptionally nice kitten Tamarind is still waiting for a home.
Donations toward Xani's vet work is appreciate and 100% tax deductible!

The Cat Shack is a no-kill, non-profit, 501(c)3 tax-exempt cat rescue organization. We attempt to find permanent homes for stray and unwanted cats and kittens.
Prior to adoption, all cats are neutered/spayed updated on required vaccines. All our cats are tested for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Immuno deficiency virus (FIV).
The Cat Shack serves to place 3 CATegories of needy cats:
Friendly Strays and kittens looking for safe, permanent indoor homes.
Feral (wild) Strays who are not suitable for inside homes and who seek safe, permanent barn homes where they can be employed as mousers. There is no adoption fee for barn cats though donations are appreciated.
In an effort to help people place pets that they can no longer keep for some reason, we will post the cats picture/story and the owner's contact information. These cats are NOT being adopted through The Cat Shack and the adopter will deal directly with the owner. These cats will have a * symbol next to their names.
The Cat Shack continues to offer low cost spay/neuter clinics where stray and feral cats can be altered to help curb the serious cat overpopulation problem.
Please spay and neuter your pets and, if you are feeding stray or feral cats, please be responsible and have them spayed and neutered also. It is up to us, the animals lovers that care about these cats, to assure that there is a GOOD home available for every kitten born. We all need to do our part to prevent the birth of new cats that will never be adopted.
